Jovan Adepo, a British-American actor who made his television debut in HBO series The Leftovers, is making headlines after playing the world's first black, gay superhero in Watchmen, one of 2019's most talked about television shows. In a surprise twist, Adepo's character Will Reeves was revealed as the identity behind Hooded Justice, a masked vigilante whose identity in the original 1980s comics was left unsolved. Starring opposite Regina King in the acclaimed HBO show, the 31 year old was unmasked in flashback episodes, and viewers were left surprised as it was revealed the superhero had to paint himself white beneath his costume in order to be socially acceptable as a crime fighter in a racially divided 1930s New York. His high profile casting in Watchmen comes after a busy few years that began with him making an appearance in the Oscar nominated film Fences with Denzel Washington, and featuring in the hard hitting web series Sorry For Your Loss and the TV adaption of Jack Ryan. In 2020 he’s set to appear in The Stand, a miniseries about a post apocalyptic battle, based on Stephen King’s novel, alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Amber Heard and James Marsden.
