Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova has joined UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) as its latest Goodwill Ambassador, working with the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency to 'empower women and girls by tackling the stigma and taboos that surround their bodies and health and lead to pervasive discrimination and exclusion'. Vodianova commented 'For too long, society’s approach to menstruation and women’s health has been defined by taboo and stigma. And this has undermined the most basic needs and rights of women. It is now our responsibility to culturally redefine what is normal. Menstruation is a normal bodily function. As UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, I want to work to build a world where we no longer need to explain this'.
