Rising Stars: Jeremy Pope

Jeremy Pope, a New York based theatre star, has generated hype for his performance in Choir Boy, a play written by Moonlight creator Tarell Alvin McCraney, which opened on Broadway in January 2019. The actor and singer originally took on the starring role in the play’s off-Broadway debut in 2013, earning him a nomination for the prestigious Drama League Award, but it’s his recent performance which has won him the most praise, with critics highlighting his ‘seraphic voice’ and ‘tender’ portrayal of a young, gay, black man at an all-boys prep school. Pope has also branched into film, appearing in the 2018 horror The Ranger, and released the R&B single NEW LOVE, although musical theatre remains his focus; he’ll next play Eddie Kendricks in the jukebox musical Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of the Temptations, which makes its Broadway debut in March 2019, and is sure to propel his stage career even further.
