Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova has joined UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) as its latest Goodwill Ambassador, working with the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency to 'empower women and girls by tackling the stigma and taboos that surround their bodies and health and lead to pervasive discrimination and exclusion'. Vodianova commented 'For too long, society’s approach to menstruation and women’s health has been defined by taboo and stigma. And this has undermined the most basic needs and rights of women. It is now our responsibility to culturally redefine what is normal. Menstruation is a normal bodily function. As UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, I want to work to build a world where we no longer need to explain this'.
American fashion designer Virgil Abloh has joined London's Royal College of Art (RCA) as a Visiting Professor, enabling students to 'benefit from his wealth of experience as a leading figure in international fashion and design'. The Off White founder and Louis Vuitton Men's artistic director commented 'It’s with great honour I join the RCA as a Visiting Professor to reinforce the importance of education and hands on mentorship of future generations'.
Masha Popova, a London based, Ukrainian born fashion designer, has built up an impressive resume of collaborations, having worked with brands including Celine, Maison Margiela, Fiorucci and Marques’Almeida despite only graduating from Central Saint Martins last year. The subversive, psychedelic designs from her eponymous brand’s MA collection have been worn by BLACKPINK, Zara Larsson and Rico Nasty, while her wider work has been featured in Vogue and System Magazine. Most recently, Popova last week made her London Fashion Week debut with a digital presentation titled You Make Me Dizzy as part of the annual showcase’s DesignLAB for emerging designers.
