Rising Stars: Katie Khan

Katie Khan's debut novel Hold Back the Stars, published by Transworld, has been the talk of the book industry in late 2015, and is sure to generate a lot more buzz in 2016 leading up to its release in January 2017. Described as Gravity meets One Day, the high concept novel tells the story of Carys and Max, a couple who fall for each other in a utopian future that doesn't believe in the concept of 'true love', and who now have only 90 minutes of air remaining as they fall through space. Represented by United Agency's Juliet Mushens, best known for steering Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist to the top of the bestseller charts, Khan said 'The reaction to my story is beyond what I could have dreamed. When you work on a project semi-secretly, late at night, you pray that it's good but your own subconscious constantly tears you down and tells you it's not. Having offers, auctions, and enquiries about film options has eclipsed my expectations'. Khan, who works at Paramount Pictures and is a graduate of the The Faber Academy Novel Writing Course alongside SJ Watson and Rachel Joyce, is sure to make a huge impact with this stellar debut novel.
